Another week jammed with lots of fun activities. Monday brought a huge rainstorm to the Keys and we had over 5 inches of rain flooding the park. What a day for Ross and Sue to arrive and try to set up.
Astonishingly, most of the puddles were dried up and gone by Tuesday. A group gathered at our place to visit and we rescued a lost dog running through the park—Art trapped him in their camper. That night some of us went up to see Avatar at the movie theater in Marathon. It’s not in 3-D here, but still an amazing movie to see.
Thursday Matt and Alice organized a picnic down at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park in Key West. It’s a great place with a sprawling beach, shady picnic area, nature walks and fort tours. We had seen the fort a few years back. It contains the largest cache of Civil War seacoast cannons in the United States. The Fort remained under federal control during the Civil War. Our group had a lovely afternoon picnicking, playing bean bags, sunning and viewing the sculptures set up along the beach—and Hank even got to finish reading his book. Thanks, Matt and Alice!
Still more fun get-togethers on Friday and we had THREE surprise visitors during the week. Mike and Ornetta arrived from Pompano and we celebrated Ornetta’s birthday at Keys Fisheries. Jimmy and Bubba stopped by and are renting a place near No Name. And Steve and Mary drove down from Fiesta Key where they will be for this next month.
Art and Kris did their annual waffle breakfast on Sunday. Everyone brought something and we not only had waffles, but crepes, cinnamon buns, bacon and sausage, fruit, juices and coffee. YUMMY! Thanks, Art and Kris!
Then we set up the bean bag tournament and 36 people joined in for the weekly fun.
Immediately after Bean Bags, we gathered at Turtle and Brenda’s trailer for their annual Super Bowl party. Barb and Brian help them smoke hams and everybody brings a dish and it is quite a feast. Over 100 people were there and we all ate well. Thanks, Turtle and Brenda!
I leave you with a picture of the hibiscus plant blooming right outside our front door.
