On the drive to Reno we passed an area where people had placed stones alongside the highway with names and messages spelled out—mile after mile of them! Lots of hay trucks on the road and we were surprised to see “green” hay.
On the way to Lake Tahoe we stopped at the Nevada Railroad Museum and guess what? They were closed for the day. Hank still took some pictures.
The drive into the Lake Tahoe area was very scenic and a daytime moon was peeking over the top of the mountains.
Notice the ski hill back behind one of the hotel casinos in town. We thought the lake itself was beautiful and wish we had had the time to drive all the way around it. We would have liked to have seen Emerald Bay which is one of the most photographed places in the country. Hard to believe I missed it, right? Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the United States. It reminded us of Torch Lake with its cobalt-blue colors. Interesting that two-thirds of the lake is in California and the other third is in Nevada.
Did I mention there is a tunnel?
That evening, back in Reno, we walked through the shopping center across the street. It’s hard to believe anyone goes into the stores as it’s so pretty outside. Then we had dinner and played poker in the casino there. Hank lost and I won!!!!
We’ve decided to spend another day in Reno as their hot-air balloon festival starts tomorrow. We have to see that!
