Again, dear reader, you will have to bear with me as I had a hard time picking among the 200 photos we took of this event. We had always wanted to see a hot-air balloon gathering and definitely were not disappointed. We got up before dawn to reach Rancho San Rafael Park, right outside Reno. There, over 100 teams were unpacking and preparing to inflate their gigantic balloons for the mass ascension. This is a 2-day event and Hank and I chose to be there for this beginning activity. We all joined in singing the national anthem and then witnessed a fly-by with a missing-man formation in honor of 9-11. It was a clear, bright day and I only wish you could hear the whoosh of the propane burners and see for yourself how quickly and quietly these colorful balloons rose straight up into the sky. Hope you will enjoy ALL of these photos.
