HARSEN’S ISLAND, JULY 9, 2010

We spent a delightful day with Art and Jane at their place on the island.  They showed us all the work they’ve done on their cottage and are hoping it will sell soon.  The house next to them, on the corner facing Algonac across the river, is also undergoing some major renovations.

We also got to see the kit boat that Art has been working on and that he entered in a show this last month.  He does amazing work.

We had a delightful dinner at the old School House.  It was the perfect day.  Thanks, Art and Jane.

4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION, 2010

The annual parade and party at Dave and Deanna’s actually took place on Monday, July 5, this year as Clawson can’t close down 14 Mile Road because of the churches on Sunday.   Very hot day and we were disappointed there were no bands, no jet fly-overs and way too many politicians in the parade.  But the kids had fun and collected lots of candy.  You can see that many of the kids had made shirts with bald eagles—not turkeys—on them in honor of the event.  And there was a car in the parade that was exactly like the first car I ever owned—check it out!

We gathered in Dave and Deanna’s lovely back-yard and there were more people in the pool this year than I remember seeing in a very long time.

It’s very special to have so many families and good friends gathered together for this annual event.  The tree house continues to be popular with the kids and washers were played by both young and old.

The piƱata was Mickey Mouse this year and all the kids got a whack at it before he split open and showered the kids with bags of candy.

JACK’S 7TH BIRTHDAY PARTY, JUNE 13, 2010

We had Jack’s party here in our clubhouse 2 days before his actual birthday.  Cloudy day, but still warm, and we were able to use the pool.  As you can see, all the kids enjoyed the swimming—plus a few adults.  Everyone had a good time watching.

We actually had a hard time getting the kids out of the pool for lunch until we mentioned there would be cake AND presents…….

Did I mention presents?  Jack loved them all, but especially the Silly Bands.  They’re big here in Michigan right now and all the kids are wearing them on their arms and trading with each other—sort of like baseball cards.

Happy Birthday, dear Jack.  I leave you with one last picture that Jack took with my camera.  Grandpa was making his Grumpy Grandpa face!
