We drove into Savannah and took the trolley tour of this beautiful and historic city. There were so many people taking the tours, that they brought out the Ghosts and Gravestones trolley and that’s what we rode in. I hung out of the window, snapping pictures of everything. The azaleas were in bloom, but a storm had come through a few days before and taken many of the blossoms off the bushes. Hope you’ll get a feel for this special city from all the photos I will post here.
We’d only gotten off the trolley at the riverfront to have lunch, so we hopped off near the end to visit the Ships of the Sea Museum which is in the William Scarbrough House, built in 1819. Am so glad we did. I don’t know what I liked best—the colorful gardens, the unbelievably intricate ship models and paintings or the gorgeous old mansion itself.
Before returning to our campground, we squeezed in a quick visit to the Central of Georgia train station and the Georgia State Railroad Museum.
We had a seafood dinner at a restaurant overlooking the marshes and will start home in earnest tomorrow. It’s been such a great winter.
