Our last week here at Sunshine Key was extremely busy. Besides packing up and getting ready to head north, there were lots of last-minute events and get-togethers.
Monday our gang headed down for a picnic on the beach at Fort Zachary Taylor Park in Key West. A cruise ship was just coming into port as we arrived. Besides bean bags and great eats, some of us walked around to see the life-size artwork, and Matt took the boys (Art and Kris’s grandsons and friend) snorkeling.
Debbie and Al had arranged for us to have a live band for our last dance on Monday night. It was the BEST dance ever and we saw couples out on the dance floor who had never been there before.
Tuesday morning we gathered to say good-bye to Mel and Janice and Casey. Seems like they just got here!
The Water Aerobics class got together at the Sunshine Cafe to have lunch and to say thank you to Karen, Margie and Michelle for being such great teachers.
Tuesday night Karen and Marlene hosted a Volunteer Dinner to thank all of the people here who do so much to make this such a special place. I apologize that I was not able to photograph each and every person.
On Thursday, the campground gathered to say good-bye to Marlene and wish her the very best. As manager of SSK, she has shown great patience in trying to make each of us happy in our winter home. She will definitely be missed.
Jimmy invited us to stop by for some music after the party. We tried to get Stanley to play his guitar, too, but he wouldn’t do it. The guitar Jimmy is playing is one that he made himself.
Friday night our avid fishermen pooled some of their catch and we all went up to Lazy Days where they prepared all of our fish in 5 different ways. We all enjoyed tasting the different recipes and choosing a favorite. Both the chef and our waiter got a standing ovation from us.
On Saturday, we all cleaned out our refrigerators and cupboards and held the last potluck of the season. We also brought out the bottles of wine from our home states and had a wine-tasting contest. It got better and better as the evening wore on.
Monday morning I was able to take a few last photos of our wonderful neighbors here at SSK. We hate to say good-bye.
My final pictures from our winter here in 2011 are some that I took on the last night here and a final walk around the park. I do love this place.
