SAD GOOD-BYES, MARCH 29-APRIL 3, 2010

 

It’s always so hard to watch our neighbors pack up their belongings and leave to journey home.  We exchange final hugs and wishes for safe trips.  Sad as it is, it also means that we are also one more day closer to being back together at SSK.

And now for the hardest good-bye of all.  Hank and I also left on Wednesday, a day earlier than planned.  I flew home from Ft. Myers to attend the funeral of our good and dear friend, Sandi.  She and Dave had just enjoyed a wonderful visit to Key Colony in mid-March and we are so grateful we had time to be with her one last time.   May she rest in peace.  She will be sorely missed.

SSK, WEEK 17, MARCH 22-28, 2010

 

Our last full week here started out cool.  It was actually warmer in Michigan than here in the Florida Keys.  But we finally got some of the weather we have been desperately waiting for.  We took our last boat trip on Tuesday and spent part of each day breaking down our campsite and getting things stowed away for the journey home. 

We were very happy to welcome Obie home from rehab on Wednesday.  I also took photos of the last Holey-Board tournament on the beach—our Joanne did great!  I then went to the marina and waited to take pictures of Blaine towing in Tom’s boat from out on the reef.

Lots of shelling was happening at low tide and many empty conch shells were collected to be cleaned and filled with air plants to take home.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thursday a group of us went up to see Crazy Heart at the movies in Marathon.  Neat place as you can get beer and hot dogs and eat them right at your table while you watch the movie.  You have to be there and in line by 6:15 p.m.  to get the good seats.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Friday we spent the day at Sombrero Beach in Marathon.  We all brought our lunches and enjoyed the beach and water, bean bags and visiting in the shade of the picnic shelter.
