HOW COLD IS IT HERE IN THE KEYS????
….so cold that we put flannel sheets back on the bed.
…so cold that our Sunday Bean Bag Tournament was canceled as the wind chill was 40 degrees with the winds blowing at 20 m.p.h.
…so cold that the Water Aerobics class is a distant memory.
…so cold that our monthly electric bill came in at $126 as we have been running the electric heater almost constantly.
…so cold that we have all dug out our winter jackets, hats and mittens.
…so cold that I have put the outdoor plants in the truck to shelter them from the bitter cold and winds.
…so cold that all of the boats are sitting on site rather than being in the marina or out on the water.
…so cold that we held Fitz’s birthday party at midday rather than evening time.
…so cold that people are using the clubhouse to get out of their campers to do puzzles and play games.
…so cold that I moved our “city chicken” dinner party into the clubhouse on Saturday before ice cream night.
We did keep warm at Line Dancing and Computer Class on Tuesday.
Friday was our only WARM day and everyone took advantage of it to be outside and to share in the pool party and Fish Fry. I might add that the triplets were the only ones in the pool!!!
We tourists are not the only ones suffering through this cold spell. The Turtle Hospital in Marathon reported that “On 1/6/10, 92 Sea Turtles were stranded near Merit Island due to the dramatic drop in water temperature. This phenomenon in reptiles is called ‘cold stunning’. On 1/7/10, 183 Sea Turtles stranded near Merit Island and 100 near the Panhandle.” The Turtle Hospital is assisting the FWC in dealing with this crisis. The Iguanas are also dealing with the cold by dropping out of their hiding places in the trees to bask in the sun, when possible.
Okay, enough whining! At least we are not shoveling snow or driving on snow and ice. I leave you with a few last pictures of the sky over our Sunshine Key.
