We left Cortez, Colorado, heading back to Utah to visit both Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks in the next week. I haven’t mentioned the huge numbers of international visitors we have encountered in all of the parks and campgrounds we’ve been in. Many of them use their vacation month of August to come to the United States, rent a motorhome and do the grand circle tour of national parks. We often saw signage in several different languages to accommodate the many foreign visitors. Pretty special that these parks draw people from all over the world.
We made a quick stop early in the day to see the Four Corners Monument. This landmark is the only place in the United States where four states meet at a single point. The flags of the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado, plus those of the Ute and Navajo nations fly over the monument.
Just a few photos of the the changing scenery as we moved back towards Utah, spending Wednesday night in Page, Arizona, near Lake Powell.
On Thursday, we drove into Panguitch, Utah and settled into the Hitch N Post Campground. We toured the town and were amazed at the number of red brick homes scattered throughout the town. We discovered that the former Panguitch Brick Company was located here and many of the workers used to take their pay in brick when times were tight.
We also attended a kids’ rodeo while in town. The Little Britches Rodeo was amazing. Kids from 3 to 14 showed off their skills. It’s a whole different culture and we loved seeing the kids with their cowboy hats and boots and absolute poise on horseback. Sorry we didn’t get any good indoor photos because of the lighting, but we caught a few pictures of the kids practicing outside.
Tomorrow we will visit Bryce Canyon National Park.
