Our group traveled up to McCall where Bob and Pam have a time-share condo. They also rented another condo in Graystone, the complex next door, and that became our gathering place. Hank and I stayed in Ponderosa State Park (again about a mile down the road). The drive north was breath-taking, not only for the beautiful scenery as we followed the Payette River, but also the very steep road grades we encountered.
Please make sure you notice the tire tracks in the run-away truck ramp!
And we also thought the tall road markers must be an indication of the amount of snow they get up here.
The town of McCall is charming set right on Payette Lake. Once we all got settled and put all the beer and water in the fridge, we walked into town to explore.
Dinner that night was delicious pulled pork Bob and Pam had made. We decided that we had walked so much that day that we should go back into town for homemade soft-serve at My Father’s Place. Jack treated all of us.
Tuesday we packed up some sandwiches and set out on a journey around Payette Lake on a pontoon boat. Dave and Rick served as our captains and did an “admirable” job.
We landed the boat at North Beach and had a relaxing afternoon swimming, sunning and eating our sandwiches. Water was cold, but felt great once you were in.
We stopped at one more spot and Bob and Jack treated us to a water ballet show.
The group photo we took back at the dock shows a lot of happy faces.
That night everyone came over to our motorhome and we cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for all. Then we finally got a campfire going and Pam was thrilled to finally get a s’more for dessert.
Hank and I did not take part in the rafting trip on the Salmon River the next day, but Jack was kind enough to share his photos and I thought you should see the fun everyone had on the river.
Dinner on Thursday was a very successful joint effort—Sharpes provided flank steak, Kristi made a dynamite ratatouille and Bromels did potato salad and a fruit cobbler. Fresh corn purchased at the farmer’s market that morning was the finishing touch.
The condo was very comfortable and we all relaxed and made it our home away from home.
On Thursday some were golfing, others were sight-seeing and some went to the Bergdorf Hot Springs for a soak.
We had dinner at the Shore Lodge, overlooking Payette Lake, on our final evening in McCall.
It was a great week and we laughed so hard at many of the old stories that were told. We hope that everyone who couldn’t join us for this outing will make it to Michigan next August for the 50th Reunion.
